Contemporary Global Issues: Inclusive Football for the Future

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising and contributing to an eventAcademic

Description

Football is one of the most popular sports in Europe and beyond today and even if you are not an active supporter, you will hear it being talked about in the media, the workplace and at social gatherings with family and friends. With the rising profile of women’s football and the growing visibility of campaigns such as OneLove, the topic of inclusion has never before been so prominent in football. However, recent events involving racial abuse faced by football players of colour and the recent decision made by the Dutch football association to cancel the OneLove campaign after the outcry caused by two Eredivisie captains who refused to wear the OneLove captain’s band, show the importance to continue to focus our attention on mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion in football.
