Ethics, Responsibility, and Indigeneity: Roundtables on Orang Asli Studies and Engagement

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising and contributing to an eventAcademic

Description

Peninsular Malaysia’s Orang Asli have long been, and remain, the object of scholarship and developmental interventions, in continuity with colonial-era practices. Given the increased engagement with the community by academics and civil society alike, coupled with an increasing realisation of the extractive nature of the research process, what does empowerment, working collaboratively, and conducting research ethically mean? Join Sandra Khor Manickam, Colin Nicholas, Suria Angit, Mustafa Along, Ita Bah Nan, Reita Rahim, Anthony Williams-Hunt, Zanisah Man, Wen Di Sia, and Shima Sidek for bilingual roundtable sessions on this subject on 12 July 2025, 9am to 12pm, at Bilik CUBE, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya.
