Local assistance and support infrastructure for newly arrived migrants: pitfalls and possibilities

This contribution focuses on infrastructure of assistance and support for newly arrived migrants, bringing together insights from three different European Union’s Horizon 2020 research projects. It draws on extensive review of integration literature and interviews with practitioners, as well as long-term ethnographic research in superdiverse urban Rotterdam and in four small and medium-sized towns and rural areas in the Netherlands. This panel demonstrates how ecosystems of local government actors and service providers, CSOs, and private sector risk fragmentation, and brings forward how more sustainable support to newcomers can be thought of. ...
