This special issue on class action litigation in the South African Journal on Human Rights covers the topic well. The seven contributions provide both a contextual and critical analysis of the development and practice of class action law in South Africa. We are pleased to have been able to incorporate contributions that are grounded in legal practice with analysis of some of the more pressing procedural and substantive concerns around class action litigation. We have also included some comparative perspectives, more particularly from The Netherlands in relation to a class action on climate change and, to a much smaller extent, some jurisprudence from Canada.
