The engagement of artists in teaching activities plays a crucial role in society in areas such as schooling and social service agencies, and it provides them with a supplementary income. Research on the engagement of artists in teaching activities reveals a variety of disciplines (predominantly performing and visual arts), a diverse array of educational activity types, and several contexts in which these take place. The presentation addresses the current state of research on the topic of the ‘teaching artist’ by the guiding question: What are the major themes and topics in the academic discussions and literature on the ‘teaching artist’?
