Abdessamad Bouabid specializes in the ‘criminology of the Other’ — an approach that examines how certain groups within society are marginalized and criminalized through processes of othering and social exclusion. His main area of research encompasses subtopics such as structural and everday racism, discrimination, othering, ethnic/racial profiling, social exclusion, (mass) stigmatization, moral panics, social identity, and structural violence. His work is influenced by critical criminology, symbolic interactionism, cultural criminology, and the ethnographic approach.
Abdessamad Bouabid is gespecialiseerd in de ‘criminologie van de Ander’ — een benadering die onderzoekt hoe bepaalde groepen in de samenleving worden gemarginaliseerd en gecriminaliseerd door processen van othering en sociale uitsluiting. Zijn belangrijkste onderzoeksgebied omvat subthema’s zoals structureel en alledaags racisme, discriminatie, othering, etnisch/raciaal profileren, sociale uitsluiting, (massa)stigmatisering, morele paniek, sociale identiteit en structureel geweld. Zijn werk wordt beïnvloed door de kritische criminologie, het symbolisch interactionisme, de culturele criminologie en de etnografische benadering.
