Personal profile

Research interests

I am an Associate Professor of Public Policy and Politics at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Erasmus University Rotterdam. My research interests include stratification and social inequality, immigrants' economic disadvantage and integration, public policy, and intergroup prejudice and discrimination. In my current research projects, I am particularly interested in how individual resources (e.g., human capital, social capital) and institutions (at the national and local levels) interact and how this affects ethnic and gender inequalities in the labor market in Europe. Among other topics, I study the role of labor market institutions and family policies in addressing ethnic and gender inequalities. In other projects, I exploit natural experiments to estimate the causal effects of policy interventions on integration outcomes of recent immigrants in Germany. I am currently teaching various courses at the BA and MA level in areas of public policy, migration and integration, and social inequalities.
