With a keen interest in the meta-reflections on how people from different contexts and times have shaped and related to their multifaceted pasts, the primary concern of his research includes historical consciousness, historical culture, and philosophy/theory of history.
Under the supervision of prof. dr. Maria Grever, prof. dr. Paul van de Laar and dr. Robbert-Jan Adriaansen, his doctoral research examines the configuration of historical distance in politically engaged Anglophone historiographies from the 1960s to the 1990s, based on the historical narrative of three historians: Howard Zinn (1922-2010), E. P. Thompson (1924-1993) and Natalie Zemon Davis (1928-2023).
Additionally, he works as a freelance academic translator, having translated numerous books, articles, and videos into Chinese. He is also co-running a social media focusing on history and theory that facilitates intellectual exchanges between the Sinophone academia and the West.
Bowen obtained his Bachelor’s (2019) and Master’s degree (2022) in history, both cum laude, at Beijing Normal University.
