Research interests

Catherine Koekoek is a PhD researcher at Erasmus School of Philosophy. Alongside finishing her PhD, she is also a curator for the 2024 International Architecture Biennial Rotterdam around the theme "Nature of Hope." She holds degrees in architecture (MSc, cum laude, Delft) and philosophy (MA, cum laude, Leiden). Her dissertation examines how democratic infrastructures – from community centers to the Rotterdams Wijktheater, with which she collaborates – enable democratic coexistence in the face of both post-truth polarisation and neoliberal depoliticisation. Together with Veerle Alkemade, she produces the feminist architecture podcast Respons.
