Research interests
Dr. Cheng Bian is an Assistant Professor at Erasmus School of Law, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and an Associate at Staunch B.V. law firm in Amsterdam. He studied law in China, obtained his master's degree in international law, and passed the Chinese bar. He obtained his doctorate in 2018 from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he completed his thesis and published it as a monograph titled 'National Security Review of Foreign Investment: A Comparative Legal Analysis of China, the United States and the European Union' (Routledge, 2020). His research and teaching focus on international investment law and arbitration, Chinese business law, comparative investment law, EU-China investment law and policy, and data governance. He is a country reporter for China for the CELIS Institute since 2021. He is also a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Germany), Columbia University (the US), and Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge (the UK). He has published widely monographs, edited volumes, journal articles, policy reports, and law blogs.
