Research interests

Frederik T. (Erik) Schut is a Professor of health economics and health policy at the Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management (ESHPM), Erasmus University of Rotterdam. In 1995, he received his Ph.D. degree in health economics (cum laude) from Erasmus University. He teaches courses in health economics, health policy and health system analysis. His research focuses on competition and regulation and the role of consumer behavior in health care, long-term care and health insurance markets and he has published extensively about these subjects. He is allied as academic partner to the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB), and member of the editorial board of Health, Economics, Policy and Law. He participated in several advisory committees to the government, e.g. on reforming the hospital sector, the financing of primary care, the private health insurance sector and long-term care insurance. He also served as a member of the Advisory board of the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) and as advisory member the Social and Economic Council (SER).
