Personal profile

Research interests

Fiore Geelhoed's research is motivated by a fascination for belief in absolute truths, a need for social connection and a growing realization that (policy) practice requires nuance to constructively deal with the challenges that polarization, radicalization and extremism pose.
In view of this motivation, Fiore conducts research on extremism, activism, conversion to and within Islam, radicalisation, and more recently, those who are labelled as 'conspiracy believers'. Her main research focus concerns the meaning of activism, radicalism and extremism to those who become involved in what are seen as radical, extremist or activist movements, as well as their narratives, and subcultures. In addition, she has conducted work on motives and reasons for noncompliance and compliance, especially regarding green criminological issues.
