Research interests

Jasper Eshuis is Full Professor of Affective Governance at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology, Erasmus University Rotterdam. His main areas of expertise are governance and stakeholder participation, governance of emotions and affect, and public branding and marketing.

 

His chair on Affective Governance addresses emotions in the relationship between government, citizens, and companies. How can we deal with those in an emotionally intelligent way? His research aims to contribute to an emotionally intelligent government.

 

Jasper has published over 30 articles in journals such as Public Administration Review, Public Administration, Public Management Review, Urban Studies, and the Journal of Place Management and Development.

Jasper has a keen interest in the valorisation and societal impact of his research. He is an expert on action research. He has conducted commissioned research for public organisations such as ministries, municipalities, and regional authorities. He regularly gives advice, masterclasses and lectures for public organisations and professionals

 

Jasper has served on editorial advisory boards of Public Administration Review, and the Journal of Place Management and Development. He has held visiting positions at University of California, Berkeley, and the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

Jasper combines research and education, and he is a committed lecturer and educational manager. He has founded the interdisciplinary Honoursprogram ‘Inclusive Energytransition’. He teaches courses such as Politics and Media, and Political Philosophy and Democracy.
