Research interests

Jeroen Jansz is Full Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He holds the Chair of Communication and Media in the Department of Media & Communication. He is a member of the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Culture, History & Society (ERMeCHS). He teaches in IBCoM, the International Bachelor's programme in Communication and Media as well as in the international MA Media, Culture and Society. From 2019-2024 he was the Academic Director of EUR's Community for Learning & Innovation where he and his team initiated and supported educational innovation. His research takes the ubiquity of the (digital) media landscape as a starting point and aims to understand and explain the changing relations between media consumers and media producers in contemporary participatory culture. This work includes research on interactive entertainment media, in particular video- and computer games. Together with Mijke Slot he developed the MOOC Serious Gaming on the Coursera platform that reached a massive number of participants. Outside academia, Jansz is the Chair of the Scientific Council for Media Literacy in the Netherlands and the Chair on the European Experts Board in PEGI.
