Research interests

Joep Hofhuis is affiliated with ESHCC’s Department of Media and Communication, where he specializes in intercultural and organizational communication. He was awarded a PhD in social and organizational psychology (University of Groningen, 2012), based on his research on cultural diversity in the workplace.  

 

Research

His academic interests lie on the crossroads of communication science, organizational science and cross-cultural psychology. In his current research, he investigates the following questions:  

1) How do organizations communicate about cultural diversity and how does this affect their stakeholders?

2) How does intercultural communication competence relate to individual, team and organizational effectiveness?

3) What is the influence of (digital) media on individuals’ social identities, intercultural adaptation and diversity perceptions?

- Associate Professor at Amsterdam School of International Business (AMSIB) of Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

- Co-founder and chair of the division Intercultural Communication and Diversity (ICD) of the Netherlands Flanders Communication Association (NeFCA).

- Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Intercultural Relations.

- Active member (and former board member) of the International Academy for Intercutural Research (IAIR).

- Member of the International Assocation of Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP).
