Research interests

Joep Hofhuis is an assistant professor at ESHCC’s Department of Media and Communication, where he specializes in intercultural and organizational communication. He was awarded a PhD in social and organizational psychology (University of Groningen, 2012), based on his research on cultural diversity in the workplace.  

 

Research

His academic interests lie on the crossroads of communication science, organizational science and cross-cultural psychology. In his current research, he investigates the following questions:  

1) How do organizations communicate about cultural diversity and how does this affect their stakeholders?

2) How does intercultural communication competence relate to individual, team and organizational effectiveness?

3) What is the influence of (digital) media on individuals’ social identities, intercultural adaptation and diversity perceptions?  

 

Positions

- Elected Board member of the International Academy for Intercultural Research (IAIR)

- Co-founder and chair of the division Intercultural Communication and Diversity (ICD) of the Netherlands Flanders Communication Association (NeFCA)

- Member of the International Assocation of Cross-Cultural Psychology.

 

Teaching

At ESHCC, Joep Hofhuis teaches courses on Diversity and Inclusion in Organizational Communication and Intercultural Communication at Work. He is also involved in teaching quantitative research methods, as well as in supervising Bachelor and Master theses.
