Research interests

Kaixin Cheng ('Xiaoming') is a PhD candidate and junior lecturer at ESHCC, Erasmus University Rotterdam. Supervised by promotors prof. dr. Marc Verboord and prof. dr. Susanne Janssen, his research project concerns immersive journalism, news audience, and media innovation. Specifically, Cheng's PhD studies the development and audience reception of 360-degree/VR news visuals and news in virtual spaces.

Cheng holds a MA in Global Journalism (The University of Sheffield, UK) and a BA in Russian Studies (Shanghai International Studies University, China) with an exchange year at Moscow City Pedagogical University in Russia. Besides journalism audience and innovation, his research interest also includes media language and geopolitical journalism. Kaixin aims to take full advantage of media experience and multi-faceted scope in his research and teaching. He also likes referring to himself in the third person.
