Maud van den Berg is a fourth-year PhD student at the Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management in the Netherlands at the Department of Health Services Management and Organization. Her research focuses on the value-based organization and reimbursement of maternity care and is based on a two-year action research at Annature Geboortezorg in Breda. This work was funded by ZonMw (‘Programma Uitkomstgerichte Zorg’) and was fulfilled in collaboration with the Annature Geboortezorg, healthcare insurer CZ and the Erasmus Medical Center. It was the aim of the research to redesign two maternity care pathways to improve patient value and to develop an outcome-based payment model to align with the principles of Value-Based Healthcare. Through her research, Maud has successfully demonstrated the potential for improved patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs, particularly in gestational diabetes care. Her work has earned international recognition, including the prestigious NEJM Catalyst Implementation Award.
