I started my clinical career as a specialized pain nurse in a specialized cancer center, part of the Erasmus University Medical Center (MC) in the Netherlands. I am enthusiastic about cancer nursing, and more specific symptom management and palliative care. Not only in daily practice, but also to improve this, and demonstrate to what extent our interventions are evidence-based.  

Currently, I work as an assistant professor of pain and palliative care at the Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, where I’m also the coordinator of (hemato-)oncology nursing research. With my research, I focus on person-oriented care for people with cancer and their loved ones so that they can function as well as possible in their own environment.

In addition to clinical practice and research, I am interested in improving our profession. That is why I combine my work as a researcher with a job as a senior lecturer at the University of Applied Science Rotterdam. Moreover, that is also the reason why I am an active member of the cancer nursing society.
