Research interests

Yeshiwas Degu Belay is a PhD student at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS/EUR) and University of Iceland. His current research focuses on Ethiopia’s engagement in international peacekeeping operations and on gender issues. He has received a PhD Grant from gró gest (Gender Studies and Training Programme) funded by Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Yeshiwas holds MA in International Security from the University of Groningen and MA in Development Studies from ISS/EUR. In addition, he holds a Postgraduate diploma in International Gender Equality Studies from GRO GEST, University of Iceland.

Previously, he was faculty member at the College of Law and Governance of Mekelle University, Ethiopia. He performed various tasks and positions including member of research and community services executive office and coordinator of department postgraduate programs.
