Abstract

A young man was admitted to the hospital because of hyperglycaemia in combination with subfebrile temperature, tremor, palpitations, chest pain, nausea and vomiting. The patient was treated for suspected insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus de novo precipitated by an infection. All symptoms, including hyperglycaemia, disappeared spontaneously within 24 hours. Afterwards the patient conceded that he used 'Thai Dianabol', which was expected to contain methandrostenolone. Analysis showed that instead of methandrostenolone, the tablets contained methyltestosterone and clenbuterol. The symptoms of the patient were due to the latter.
