Abstract

Neoliberal globalization suggests the
issue about how space is being produced in re-
lation to the recent accumulation tendencies in
Latin America, which involve the orientation of
the economies towards the primary sector and
the adoption of foreign features. Colombia, sin-
ce the 90’s, has been experiencing a profound
re-configuration of its territory, related to the
insertion in the international division of labor,
and therefore, to the undermining of certain
type of relationships with their own historical
paths, which are based in other types of rela-
tionship with the territory. The región Andina
Oriental is relevant for the dynamics of capita-
lism as a region of logistic and infrastructural
supply, for goods and capital’s circulation, and
on the other hand, as a strategic area to assure
the extraction of resources by offering logistic
and infrastructural services. Nevertheless,
these transformations are producing social conflicts expressed in territories. This suggests
the need to consider alternative forms of un-
derstanding and organizing the territory.
