Abstract

Pandemics and climate-related crises are a real risk
with potentially disruptive effects on society and
healthcare. Increasing population density and mobility,
human-animal interaction, pressure on public space,
pressure on ecosystems and biodiversity and climate
change simultaneously increase the risk and potential
impact of a subsequent pandemic or water-related
disaster. Science has an important role in preventing,
predicting and structurally preparing for pandemics
and disasters. This requires an interdisciplinary
approach that not only considers animal, human and
environmental health in connection with climate- and
water-related threats but also the societal impact. The
interplay of factors that increase the likelihood of such
crises is complex and needs to be examined in context
for systemic understanding of causes and
consequences. The PDPC aims to provide a platform
where multidsciplinary teams work together to fill
critical knowledge gaps needed for better
preparedness of citizens, healthcare facilities, and
organisations in charge of preparedness and
response.
