Abstract

A 4000 word overview of the field of development ethics, with special reference to the interface with environmental ethics. The essay outlines characteristic concerns of development ethics, with special attention to issues around the recognition of costs and risks and the (in)equity of their distribution; including to how these issues arise in relation to environmental impacts of economic development, and to current work on human security analysis which tries to embody important development ethics concerns in an approach helpful for policy-relevant research and policy design.
