Abstract

Current guidelines for inflammatory bowel disease advise to continue immunomodulating medication during pregnancy to ensure disease remission. However the possible effects of intra uterine exposure to these medications on the infants developing immune system remain uncertain. In this thesis we investigated the impact of maternal IBD and immunomodulating medication on the response to maternal Tdap vaccination, infants' active immunization and drug clearance of different biologicals. Additionally we explored the immunological composition of breastmilk and the role of microbiome in IBD pathogenesis.
