Abstract

Through the discussion of a number of representative filmic strategies of affect, the documentary films by Nicaraguan-Salvadorian Marcela Zamora enter the global public sphere in a critical fashion that is in line with developments in current documentary filmmaking around the globe. This affective quality is summoned by a visual discourse that, beyond the specific context of the civil war in El Salvador in the 1980s, manages to reconstruct national memory through a personalised treatment of a conflict through testimonies and performances.
