Abstract
The article makes a plea not to disregard certain development theories of the past, especially those emanating from Latin America, in the current onslaught of neoclassical and neoliberal theories. The shortcoming of the past development theories are recognised but in order to renew development studies it is necessary to rescue the relevant aspects of the by now rich heritage of development studies.
