Abstract
This book takes as its focus the dialectics of `individual' progress and collective deterioration. It is not so much economic growth but rather `freedom of choice' that measures the progress of a society. If mankind finds a morality for the long run, then the question is how to change existing institutions. Three major problems are examined in detail: marginalization of people, environmental deterioration and the militarization of the world. The final chapter discusses possibilities for change.
