Abstract

In this article we provide some insights into relevant law and economics research on immigration laws and policies. After discussing some typical motives of migrants, we deal with the most important welfare effects of immigration and their distribution, and try to understand why nation states regulate immigration more restrictively than the mobility of goods and capital. We refer to the example of the free movement of EU citizens. Lastly, we present some economic insights into asylum law.
