Abstract
Intruders: Reflections on Art and the Ethnological Museum is the result of an ethnological museum's invitation to a group of artists to intervene in its very raison d'etre. A number of prominent artists were asked to put forward their views, untainted by traditional jargon or political correctness. They intervened in the museum gardens, the displays and even in the vast collection itself. Their works cross the historical divides between ethnological and so-called 'modern' or 'Western art'.
[...]
Artists, writers, anthropologists and curators comment on the current state of, and possibilities for, the museum. They also explore the role of art in re-shaping the museum. In this book, they come up with some thought-provoking views on these issues.
