Abstract

Monuments are often mistaken as mimetic representations of a homogeneous past that do no justice to the complexity of what is represented (Kleinberg 2023). Inspired by Ann Rigney’s work, in this chapter I reflect on the extent to which protests against such public monuments in the Netherlands are effective in changing the current mnemonic regime regarding the Dutch colonial past.
