Research output: Chapter/Conference proceedingConference proceedingAcademicpeer-review

Abstract

The shipping industry is a playground for innovation in technology and business models. On the basis of the Dutch maritime innovation agenda, I provide an overview of innovations and research in three main areas: zero-emission shipping, digital and autonomous shipping and safe shipping. In all these areas, parties in the Netherlands are conducting research and developing new technologies and solutions. I discuss two cases where start-up companies have emerged out of this R&D effort, that are developing new business models in the shipping industry.
