NWO Smart governance project 'Hybrid local governance in multiple social domains'

The focus of the research is on combining 'traditional' governance in the social domain with reliance on citizens' own family- and wider social networks into a hybrid form of governance. This particular governance arrangement combines the democratic ideal of self-rule with the potential of achieving a more efficient deployment of publicly funded professional interventions, as people are activated to solve part of their problems through their own networks. The duration of the project is 4 years; Euro 400.000 is subsidised by NWO; Euro 100.000 by the Municipality of Rotterdam
