Abstract

The research theme concerns the organization of dignified care for clients in need of long-term care. Using concepts derived from practice theory and care ethics, we distinguish between instrumental and interactive caring. The relationship between these two forms of caring, in relation to the client's question, determines the potential for care to be dignified. The research reveals seven mechanisms within the actions of governance and care workers that establish conditions for dignified caring. In addition to drawing conclusions, the dissertation provides recommendations to boards and care workers on how to implement these findings within their own organizations.
