Abstract
The study analyses and assesses political developments since independence, reviews the country's economic performance and traces social development to provide the background for development assistance to Pakistan. The Norwegian aid experience in Pakistan since 1969 is evaluated, and prospects and implications for a reorientation of this aid, in the light of the Norwegian "white paper" on aid are assessed. Two annexes contain background studies on a number of issues.
