Panel: A conversation on trust in journalism: definitions, developments and future directions.

Research output: Contribution to conferenceConference contributionAcademic

Abstract

In this roundtable, we will critically explore the complex issue of “trust” in journalism; more specifically the ways in which new technologies, newsroom practices, and news repertoires relate to trust issues, and how trust can be restored between news audiences and news organizations. The panel will make suggestions for a future research agenda on this topic.
Importantly, we argue that an interdisciplinary discussion as well as critical integration of different research strains is crucial for addressing the various social and political challenges that are entailed in questions about trust, journalism, societal formations, cultural conflicts, and the growing role of technology. Thus, we invite panelists with a hands-on research profile
on the topic but with diverse academic backgrounds in media studies, journalism studies, communication science, critical data studies, and digital methods.
