Abstract

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a complex and multifaceted disease, challenging clinicians to provide effective and efficient care in everyday practice. Addressing this complexity, this dissertation provides a comprehensive framework for optimizing PsA management in daily clinical practice.

A significant focus of this work is on the often-overlooked role of psoriasis in PsA, advocating for psoriasis remission as a key treatment goal and underscoring the importance of assessing psoriasis burden throughout the course of disease. The research also evaluates two newly developed composite disease activity measures, assessing their potential for practical application in routine care. Additionally, it investigates clinical, demographic, and psychosocial factors associated with non-response to methotrexate, a commonly prescribed treatment.

This dissertation provides rheumatologists with practical insights and tools to refine their approach to PsA management, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes through personalized and holistic treatment strategies.
