Abstract
This dissertation examines the development practices of trustworthy AI, focusing on how values, particularly trustworthiness, are integrated into the design and implementation of AI systems. Through multimethodological approach grounded in a practice paradigm, including ethnography, online surveys, and content analysis, this dissertation works towards an understanding of how trustworthiness materializes in AI development, the social dynamics that influence these practices, and the role of diversity in creating trustworthy AI. The dissertation argues that trustworthiness is a dynamic concept that emerges through social interactions and material processes, and that a sociotechnical approach is crucial to address the ethical and societal challenges posed by AI. The dissertation concludes by suggesting recommendations for fostering trustworthy AI practices within organizations, education, and policy.
