Prime Examples of Human Reasoning: René Descartes, Discours de la méthode

Research output: Chapter/Conference proceedingChapterAcademic

Abstract

Nearly 400 years since they were first published, the opening lines of Discours de la méthode (Discourse on method) by the French philosopher René Descartes seem more relevant than ever. As the world struggles with climate change and a pandemic, we might wonder whether those who deny the existence of such problems or do not believe in the effectiveness of vaccines — let alone the conspiracy theorists — are completely lacking in good sense. Anyone who has asked themselves this should consult Descartes.
