Abstract
This book brings to the fore the notion of reflexive urban governance. This is considered a promising perspective that combines awareness of the practices of urban governance with a continuous reflexivity on normative assumptions underlying urban policies and interventions, as well as intended and unintended outcomes of such urban processes, like inequalities, exploitation of vulnerable groups and injustice. We argue that reflexivity is necessary in processes of urban governance, because through reflexivity, stakeholders become able to adjust, and to collaboratively develop problem-solving capacity, also in relation to successes and failures of policy programs and actions, and potential unexpected and undesired outcomes of those policy programs and actions.
