Abstract

This chapter discusses how, during the German occupation of the Netherlands, the art market - which at the time experienced a boom - was the target of various attempts at regulation - for political, cultural, and commercial purposes - by the German Aufsichtsverwaltung, accommodating as well as collaborating departments in the Dutch civil service and even the Dutch government-in-exile.
