Abstract

We explored complexity within the Chinese government's dominant state logic. Drawing on panel data and interviews, we examined the multifaceted state influence on environmental reporting by Chinese listed firms. Results show that the state logic differentially impacts corporate environmental reporting, contingent on the government's hierarchical levels and policy instruments.
