Abstract
A history of the Vietnamese Revolution from 1925 to 1975 (with a fifth volume still to appear), which examines this phenomenon as both a drive to win state power and an attempt to build socialism in the North after 1954. For the former analysis it uses a Gramscian model of the revolutionary process to examine the embedding of Marxist-Leninist doctrine in Vietnamese reality, for the latter the main theme is the use of the Soviet and Chinese 'models' by the Vietnamese communist leadership. Concretely, it provides detailed analyses of economic and social change in both North and South. The study also analyses the reasons for US intervention and its nature and effects in different periods.
