Abstract

In a context of an ageing population and longer life expectancy, Long Term Care (LTC) represents a challenge for European Welfare States, which seek to ensure the quality of care and the well-being of caregivers in the face of demographic, family and technological changes. The European DanceCARE project addresses the challenge to contrast caregiver psychological burden and improve caregiver well-being through Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) and WiseMotion (WM) approaches, supported by digital tools. The project consortium, comprising
six partners from five European countries, aims to develop an innovative and flexible course, accessible on a digital platform and tailored to the needs of informal and semi-formal carers. A mixed methodology was used, combining literature review and questionnaires to DMT experts.
The review identified key soft skills and emotional needs of caregivers, such as improving empathy, communication, problem solving, digital skills and self-awareness. These skills promote a more balanced and mutually beneficial caregiver-dependent relationship. The importance of fostering self-confidence, reducing social isolation and improving emotional well-
being was also highlighted..The results of the expert consultation also confirm the effectiveness of DMT in promoting stress reduction, resilience and emotional awareness in caregivers. Therefore, 7 body-mind sessions were developed in the form of workshops and videos, in which approaches based on creative movement and body-mind interaction are applied, and
expressive techniques mediated by music and various art materials are used. In this way, the DanceCARE project aims to contribute to the improvement of the carers psychological well- being and quality of life.
