Abstract

This thesis aimed to explore the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) disease in a general asymptomatic population and investigate the diversity and composition of the microbiome in the entire GI tract. More insight in the trend of increasing incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) and the pathophysiological characteristics of EOCRC were provided. Next, the use and future applications of colon capsule endoscopy were discussed. Finally, the accuracy of current CRC screening methods were discussed.
