Abstract
The paper deals with the causes of and the problems connected with the ongoing attempt to achieve the global harmonisation of protection for intellectual property, particularly that for high technology. Following the Introduction, Part 2 critcially reviews the economics of intellectual property. Part 3 and Part 4 examine the actual process of harmonization under way at the global as well at the regional level, respectively. Part 5 presents a series of conclusions.
