Abstract

This paper charts the recent developments in non-equity investment by industrial nations in the developing Third World. Secondly, it guages the impact of this "new" investment on the "codes of conduct for multinational enterprises," as presently formulated by the Andean Group, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Economic Community (EEC), and the United Nations (principally, the International Labour Organization and the Economic Social Council of the UN). And lastly, it assesses the effect these investments will have on the definition of the multinational corporation, the issues of 'ownership versus control' within these collaborative arrangements, and the transfer of technology by the multinational enterprises (MNEs) to the developing countries.
