Abstract
The article presents an overview of recent developments in the codification of children's rights in Africa. It analyses the 1990 African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and compares that document with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989). Particular attention is paid for provisions, among others, on political rights; economic, social and cultural rights; child labour; harmful social and cultural practices; children and armed conflict and refugee children.
