Abstract
Personal information is a continuation of one’s personality in the digital world, creating a digital personality of the individual. Responsible parties who prevent data subjects4 from transferring their personal information from one service provider to another violates a human right (the right to privacy). This right should not be interfered with but, at the same time, should be viewed as one of many privacy protections individuals have. Personal information forms part of privacy, enshrined under section 14 of the constitution. The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 seeks to promote the protection of personal information processed by public and private bodies and to introduce conditions to establish minimum requirements for processing personal information
