Abstract

This book provides a broad analysis of issues raised by the involvement of experts in international and European decision-making processes. Three main themes recur throughout the volume: the rationales for involving experts en ensuing legitimacy problems; the individual and collective dimensions of expert involvement; and experts and politics, and/or the politics of expertise. Chapters focus on general aspects, and expert involvement in the policy areas of environment, trade, human rights, migration, financial regulation and agencification in the EU.
