Unraveling the fibrin network: Obtaining new insights into factors affecting the formation and lysis of fibrin

In this thesis, several studies on fibrinogen and the fibrin network are described. The first part of this thesis focusses on good and reliable methods to quantify fibrinogen and properties of the fibrin network, while the second part focusses on factors that influence the fibrin network, such as COVID-19 and diabetes. Increasing knowledge about factors influencing the fibrin network leads to a better understanding of the development of thrombosis, and can possibly identify new targets for therapy and contribute to optimizing treatment or prevention of thrombotic disorders.
